It’s that time of year again for the annual rivalry football game between Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University and Bethune Cookman College to go down. However, that’s a very small part of what brings thousands of people to Orlando every year for this particular event. I could give you the backstory to the weekend but if you’re reading this, you probably already know and I’m not bored enough to include it. Moving on, it’s the weekend full of tailgating, shopping, events and of course, clubbing. It’s also the weekend of absurd traffic for three days straight and this guide should help you prepare yourself a little bit better. Whether it’s your first time or your 100th time, let me help you to avoid searching too hard on the Internet for something to do.
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION
While Kissimmee offers all of these great vacation homes, it’s also a great way to get stuck in traffic for hours all weekend (Also, Kissimmee isn’t Orlando no matter what people tell you). If you just can’t resist staying out there, make it a point to get downtown well before 9 p.m. Trust me, 1-4 traffic is a regular thing but becomes next level when it’s Classic Weekend. It’s recommended to find a hotel downtown to avoid parking, traffic and just about all of the nonsense that comes along with this heavily populated weekend.
I didn’t say hotels downtown were cheap, especially not this weekend, but if you can afford it then you’ll have much less of a headache if you stay in the downtown area.
It’s fair to say parking gets to be a little pricey and insane during this weekend. However, this is not the weekend to try to avoid paying for parking. Mind your surroundings because if your car is towed, you can bet you’ll come out of pocked no less than $200.
It’s highly recommended to purchase tickets well in advance of any after parties during this weekend. It can get expensive (as if it isn’t already) if you don’t plan accordingly before going out.
